Circle East District – the up-and-coming, built-for-the-future neighborhood just a mile east of University Circle – has been strategically designed and thoughtfully planned to help bolster the lively community of East Cleveland. This initiative included a formal placemaking study to involve area residents and employees so that community developers could know what those invested in the community want and seek for their city. The study’s results included suggestions for sustainable efforts, bold art and recreational greenspaces.

For the past year, we’ve been fortunate to work with Ingenuity Cleveland – a community of regional entrepreneurs, innovators and artists – in holding monthly events in East Cleveland. Not only are these regularly scheduled fun fests an opportunity to collaborate with this great group and gather East Cleveland residents and cheerleaders alike, but they offer participants ways to invest directly in Circle East District by bringing to life the sustainable, artistic and recreational proposals of the placemaking study.

Each monthly event highlights the partnerships between Circle East District, East Cleveland, local artists and other area establishments, like the beautiful East Cleveland Public Library. They also provide educational and creative opportunities for event participants. For example, those who partook in the July Ingenuity-Circle East District event created mosaic stepping stones with local artist and fellow Clevelander Angelica Pozo. The stepping stones will be added to Circle East District’s upcoming greenspace. Similarly, August’s event hosted artists Robin Robinson and Dayz Whun as they led event-goers through creating murals that are now featured at the Library.

For September, Ingenuity Cleveland has organized a community bike ride. Those who join will begin at the iconic Mickey’s building to embark on a wandering bike ride through the neighborhood with Bike Cleveland. Participants will receive free bike safety checks, and the event features food truck snacks, games and activities.

All events feature music, food and other entertainment options suitable for participants of all ages. Well-attended and always vibrant, colorful and community-focused, these events are a must-visit before they run out at the end of the year.  Read more about the September event here and sign up today.
